What Is Unsung Cyclist?
The bicycle industry has a decades-long tradition of honoring its elite athletes and business leaders through numerous halls of fame and museums scattered worldwide. While these efforts are to be commended, the industry has overlooked the contributions, strength, and positive impact of the global cycling community: everyday riders, commuters, dedicated industry employees, and volunteers. These hidden heroes make the world a better place not only for cyclists, but for everyone.
Who, When and Where?
The Hall is virtual. The belt buckle is real.
The Unsung Cyclist Awards will honor those who have contributed greatly to either the bike industry or the community without seeking fanfare. Each year, the Hall will welcome humble, hardworking, non-headline-seeking folks who ride bikes and make the world a better place.
Maybe they work in the cycling industry, maybe they don’t. Maybe they won a bike race or two, maybe not. Maybe your cycling neighbor who decades ago founded a community non-profit. Maybe a sage bike mechanic that wrenches all night on pro team bikes so you can cheer the next day. Or maybe occasionally… it is a professional bike racer or industry leader who quietly goes about helping others first when no one is looking.
Unsung Cyclists are everywhere in the world.
Globally, nine Unsung Cyclists—three each in three categories—will be recognized. 2026 honorees will be announced in January 2027, with awards presented in Monterey, California, during the 2027 Sea Otter Classic.
